The first-Valerio Melandri Italian blog on fundraising

Less debate, more beats

fathers cammilliani

One evening at dinner to talk about fund raising, see some problems, try to come up with possible solutions. One evening at dinner with one of the higher order of 5 Camillians, Father Luigi Galvani. I tried to route them to a path of fundraising, after some well-known consultants, (as I mentioned in my previous post) have made their spending, a figure crazy (crazy) for nothing. I'm not saying anything new but it goes to show you how many times come across organizations that have gone after "the locusts".

But an ethical rule (risk sharing) should run out the door in this world. Do not you think? I did not think of anything andandoli to meet (I have not searched for me), just wanted to give him all information possible to address positively the next "consultant" ....

Someone tells me: "Basically they've done two hours of unpaid consulting?" - And I say - "Yes. Two hours of unpaid consulting "economically", but strategic paid for the chance to meet people strong, tough, true giants of humanity, will testify that the reason to live ".

This is the fund raising! LESS AND MORE DEBATES 'BEATS!

Dear Valerio,
I was very happy to have known along with Titian and P. Efisio Locci. I was so impressed by your man, simple and fraternal to relate with others. I found your work interesting and challenging and I think your students will be lucky. Actually some of your valuable suggestions. I hope we can meet again in the future and possibly commit to a partnership that makes us feel closer together and to help neighbors in need.
Gladly I am attaching a copy of the letter that I sent a few hundred friends and benefactors on the occasion of Easter.
In particular I would like to extend to you and your family best wishes for a Happy Easter and provide a special memory for you to Risosrto. Each well.
P. Luigi Galvani

Happy Easter 2007

Dear friends,

on behalf of the missionaries and the children they help with the "sponsorship" will reach the most fraternal greetings of a Holy and Happy Easter.

In these days it will be nice to be all united in living the paschal mystery and remember the glorious moments of our redemption began with the passion and death of Jesus but later culminated in his glorious resurrection. This marks the official handover to the new life portataci by Christ in the mystery of his redemption.

Easter is a call to identify with the Risen Lord and follow his example in sharing something of ourselves with the poor, the suffering and needy children. This gives you joy and makes us live fully charitable spirit of the Gospel.

Then I take this opportunity to inform you of an important event for us Camillians: next May will be celebrated the 56th General Chapter, which is the highest authority of the Order. The Assembly meets every 6 years the main representatives of the Institute from 40 countries worldwide on 5 continents to discuss, review and promote new initiatives on social welfare activities, educational and cultural Camillians carry on in the world.

During this solemn assembly will elect new leaders (Father General and the 4 councilors) who will guide the Order for the next 6 years. As you well know, in the past six years have been one of the 4 Directors General with the specific charge of the missions of the Institute and the economy. I then pass the baton to the new elected to such responsibilities. (In the photo next to the outgoing General Council.)

You might ask, what then my new future responsibilities? For the moment do not know. I ask why you all a special prayer to the Holy Spirit to show me the new way .... The missions are always in my heart but we religious are also children of obedience ...

In the coming months you'll know what providence I have indicated. Certainly we will continue to carry forward our missionary program, wherever the Lord calls us.

A fraternal and cordial embrace the hope of a Holy and Happy Easter to you and your family.

P. Luigi Galvani
General counselor for the Missions

Well I think it is a problem of information and training. In fact, one must ask what is known the word fundraising / fundraising in nonprofit organizations. If a consultant goes to fundraising organizations that have never heard of, I think it's pretty easy (but it should say, commenting on this blog, who is called into question) ask so much (counseling bills) and then give little (money raised ). There is also the inverse problem, ie the consultant does a good job but the nonprofit organization internally, and especially at the level of board of directors and management, not "digest" the word fundraising. But even here the question arises: who is a professional fundraiser for years knows that if the organization does not "digested" in-house fund raising difficult fundraising can have good results. So why propose to force a fundraiser without first having trained and made to share the reason, the procedures, the practice of fundraising organizations including the board of directors, managers, staff? Or perhaps this was done by all the consultants and fundraisers Italians then everything is a problem of nonprofit organizations and consultants?
There are many questions that perhaps will never find an answer in your blog or books, but in practice the daily work of fundraisers and fundraising.

Here Valerio, you said the magic word "ethical rule" I fully agree and I associate myself to discussing a few days ago. It 's need to give the limits to avoid the locusts that destroy all.
It would be interesting to organize a panel discussion on ethics, fundraisers and fundraising. What do you think?

I appreciate very much the order of Camillians and cordially bless all their fundraising and in the future with confidence that the funds actually reach their destination without margins instead move some fundraising organizations to lay more.
