The first-Valerio Melandri Italian blog on fundraising

"From cradle to grave" - semi-serious autobiographical path nonprofit ...

Data: April 2, 2007

sea.jpg The other night, after the inauguration of the fifth edition of the Master in fund raising, I tried to explain to the many speakers, because I feel so important to nonprofit organizations.

To explain, I tried to tell my life, but in many, I may be in the same situation. My story I wanted to call "Many do not realize how extraordinarily important nonprofit organizations for the life of every Italian citizen." See if your life stories intersect with nonprofits like mine and put them in the blog comments. It will be nice to share!
Here's mine:

  • I was born in a non-profit private hospital (nonprofit organization)
  • I was baptized in the church of Bussecchio (nonprofit organization)
  • I did the free elementary schools in a school (nonprofit organization),
  • I spent part of my free time in the parish (nonprofit organization),
  • I did gymnastics in the afternoon with Ivy (nonprofit organization),
  • I went cycling in the Strong and Free (a non-profit cycling team)
  • My first job was to Confcommercio (nonprofit organization),
  • Then I received a scholarship from the CEUR Foundation (nonprofit organization)
  • and I could attend an American university, New York University (nonprofit organization).
  • I met my wife during a party organized by a nonprofit organization
  • this organization was presented to me by a priest (or a person who works for a nonprofit organization),
  • I got married in church (nonprofit organization),
  • My savings are managed by an asset management company owned, in part, a nonprofit organization,
  • my pension funds are managed by a mutual non-profit private (nonprofit organization),
  • my children go to a kindergarten run by a nonprofit organization,
  • do gymnastics and play music at a nonprofit organization
  • gift of my savings for nonprofit organizations,
  • my pension will probably be delivered by a nonprofit organization,
  • The nursing home Zangheri Forlì, where my children could get when I'm old (let's hope not!) should be subject to undue appropriation by any public entity, nonprofit organization yet.

Finally my grave in a cemetery will be operated by a nonprofit organization.

Remember to do all this takes money, that's why we want to fund raising. It 's true: "The fundraising is the servant of the nonprofit." (VM)

My life is begun in a strongly pushed towards the profit world.
Already as a child, thinking about my bright future (profit in the world), I imagined myself lying in a meadow full of flowers along with Mr. Rockefeller as he spoke beautifully of our immense capital.

Then I met the fund raising for nonprofit purposes `far and I had to necessity, study, get in touch and finally to understand that world so diverse.
    I feel changed.
My life is changed (I would say even with all the force with which he could do it).

Now my dream is to stop the degradation in the world of culture in Italy.
My "profit world," however, is limited to the possibility to enjoy a beautiful Florentine accompanied by a full-bodied Brunello along with a sweet companion.
A beautiful dream and a good challenge together.
What else can ask of life?!

I know the world of nonprofits was young because my catechist was a lay missionary. Then at 14 I started with the Italian Red Cross and in 2000, while doing community service in a Youth Information Center, I discovered that there was a beautiful thing ... its fundraising.
And then I started to discover a world that today, makes me feel useful to society. A "ring" between saying and doing good.

My "profit world"? On my refrigerator I have attached a postcard taken many years ago in Bertinoro (FC) with a local saying: "There are two pleasures in life: tvaia and lanzol (the cloth and the sheet)" and I do!

I must say that from an early age have always been addressed to profit, perhaps for the determination of my character, but growing things change and we become aware of their roots.
My father cultivated with the same passion as ever an association that has lasted 35 years.
And 'perhaps the "best person non-profit" that I have ever known and having his blood that I could not continue in his footsteps.
    It 'funny!

Come to think of my life too has always had a flap from a small profit even though I could see around the world with my private jet to handle the vast capital of the family.
First of all I was born into a family that has always run as a cooperative, have been assisted by the grandparents in a logic of mutual aid, I have studied in public and finally graduated, I would not have felt right to go in a company lavorarare profit like many of my fellow students ... I was also offered as a pro-bono administrator of my apartment building (we manage the bank according to the logic of the time) ... you will see for the future!

Dear Valerio, thanks for wanting to make us understand that the world of nonprofits are least needed (and I believe a lot more) than the profit vuoler but this may mean that there will never be a solidarity that goes beyond this comparison? I will say that things do not only with high hopes (or, if you want, starting with questions that hopefully sensible) but I still can not figure out if the non-profit, the profit will ever make us believe that it is possible a society in which selfishness will not prevail.
Although a little late and certainly by accident, having gone from here today, a sincere desire to hear the Passover.

    - My childhood and my teenage years I lived in a non-profit organization that allowed me to study, unfortunately, far from my family;

    - At some point I decided to engage in a non-profit organization but has not been fair to me;

now I am working in another non-profit organization that has done and continues to do well, but beyond my personal life, I keep asking myself questions.

But the so-called third sector iin reality is the first sector, because of doing business (second sector) actually if you do not trust it is hard to do business. And before to Italy (first sector) must make the Italians (third sector).
actually born first families of the rest, the first born of solidarity, trust, friendship, because before this there 'nothing.
The third sector is the first sector and the other two sectors are second tie ... this' my reasoning Antignani dear! and thanks for the post!
