I like the Pan Stars ... even in fundraising

I like the Sponge Stars not only because they are good but because you teach them if you buy a box you will find the recipe on one side to make them at home. It 's a bit like my writing on my blog or my collaborators and other users fundraising.it: the difference is that you should not even spend to buy the package, sometimes I write about how to do or not do fundraising . All this is called collaboration. Seth Godin says in the introduction of his latest book (" The children will be the first "read it is also valid for the nonprofit), a phrase that I think might fit well to the Italian situation of fund raising:

"Who buys my books or read my blog or call me to take conferenzae in its organization already knows what to do. They are people who, on organizational development and business of spreading ideas are cute and even diamonds. They already know how to design a great website or how to create a successful blog. But do not. Do not do it because society leaders, partners or colleagues will not allow them to take effective action. And 'as if their briefcase was packed full of propane, but they could not blow it up "

What is happening now? What is breaking down the wall of silence on fundraising, the first thing was a few people today know the fundraising and may, by word of mouth and blogs on fundraising that have been created in recent years to introduce it to others.

What is the big issue of fundraising? That is not shared is divided, what do you do? I know:

  • if you do not agree you must destroy the other (we recently had an attack on our websites have been blocked for a while 'time. Our provider has described the attack as "done with skill and strength and unusual willingness to break all "). Another time ... a "friend" instead of working to build for "fundraising" on www.wikipedia.it removed the link to our site for free information www.fundraising.it . When he did because he told me he was in error. In both cases we know exactly who it was, the Internet has the defect that leaves a mark .... And I would have thousands and thousands of other examples.
  • if you are able to do fundraising copied without citing.
  • if you really want to feel the first, a sort of "caste" is not working, even sending a simple material for research about the history of fundraising, made by my degree.

The fundraiser that operate in this way are still in the old world, what has happened for a long time but is destined to end: the world of sharing, enlargement of knowledge, sharing of ideas is the future not only fundraising but of all the nonprofit (sure to read this book if you do not believe and then tell me what you think).

Just think how many nonprofit organizations exist that do the exact same thing in the same city and do not talk, double action with an unimaginable waste of resources (it is not only the state to spend money ricordiamocelo). My friend told me today (via Skype): "if in Italy the ONP rather not work together with their staff a bit 'more beyond the political barriers that divide you would save enormous resources," I say ditto I also fundraising. But words such as open-source sharing are often words to the wind in the nonprofit sector (although widely used in conference).

Concludes the book by Godin and always think it is really a fitting description: "At that point I am speaking. Harbour fireworks. Fires are not particularly loud nor powerful, but are still able to attract the attention and, above all, to detonate the propane you already have. " I fireworks fascinate me and I can use more ...

Seth Godin's book you mention is really nice, I'm reading. It 's almost to the level of his previous "Permission Marketing", but rather is an evolution to the present day

    Only one case:
Radiohead's new CD can 'be downloaded from the site with a minimum bid
    http://www.inrainbows.com/

Small detail, only 40% (including me) donated to download. And the average 'of 1.5 €. Harvest and 'state of 3 million against the usual 8 to 12 million. I'm really curious to see if the next time will choose a sale yet so '"social".

For me choose again, maybe not them but other artists. Yesterday I read an Italian pianist who was popular in Eastern glad to Taiwan or China there were sites from which you could download his music and his records this because there are not distributed. He said: "It is good because it means that if I'm going to do concerts there will be people who will come to see me because they heard my music." The record industry is now in fact the majority of its profits on the singers' concerts and merchandising and not on the disks then radiohead should be happy with what they have collected. I do not know how to translate this into Italian fundraising, however this is my contribution to the post comments from Melandri.

    Dear Prof. Melandri
what I say will not desecrate your very serious argument, but instead of bread recipe star, you could start with one of the muffins with chocolate?
I remain convinced that Maria Grammatico Sicilian cannoli are the best in the world (Erice, Trapani) and only in this case, I hope that nobody can ever copy. Fortunately, not so much of Mary, but fortunately for us because his hands are miracles that cost just a few dollars ... (only a tasty can understand the ecstasy of that sweet ..).
That the approach to fund raising is changing in Italy is definitely on for a few, but very few. At the beginning of my work, in 2001, I thought we were worse than a secret, nobody said anything ... let alone tell you where to copy the recipe for his favorite cookies. Internet was and is very useful for our work, but without good pastry, my Sundays and those of many other colleagues, were very sad ...

I do not like the pan of stars. ... But no matter. What I mean is that they always have in hand the recipe will guarantee the success of the product. It 's a good start but there is always a path to follow. (Important is who is in the kitchen): sometimes the sponge stars burn out, sometimes not identical to the original are sometimes better than the original because you have put effort, time and something else (not a short production standardized as the Barilla), however, is already important to have a good base of ingredients ... then ... else you do it .. and all those who work with you.

    Hello Melandri
I agree with what you say. Also knowledge is profit and then the NPOs we so generous in money, because we are not in this area?
I suggest if you have not already doing, to organize an annual meeting, call it what you will, fr festival, workshops fr, fr fair, days of fr, fr ... gathering where, in addition to sections of education, we could be moments dedicated to the comparison between "equal". The moment of mutual understanding, not only virtual, makes great aggregation, collaboration and exchange durable.
We did not say that the best way to do fund raising is meeting face to face? I think the same thing for professional growth.

    Regards,
    Giusy

ps I am proud that the letter for Christmas cards has been taken as an example (suitably corrected) at the fr, thanks!

The issue of sharing of knowledge is increasingly a key issue. Personally I believe in "collaborative competition", where the collaboration is to have a real mutual benefit, while recognizing that the market rules to be respected and we are competing in the same arena, which is not an infinite space (as a number of donors ). Share the problems faced and solutions found between actors operating in a market similar means improving the market (is the concept of "peer leaders" for example). Without of course revealing creative ideas or innovative projects, that is part of competitiveness, and you can not touch!
But it works only if more players are available at the meeting and exchange, to increase opportunities for improvement for all.
Often I found myself not having to say "what could be done, but to make this happen" good. " Everyone, if they read and study, in theory know what to do to collect money. The Case Study is to do, and do it well, on the ground.
Look good initiative in San Francisco between colleagues / competitors fundraiser http://www.dersf.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=35995&orgId=der . It's called FAB: Fundraisers Anxiety Busters, and the name is already explicit! My blog is precisely in this direction.
    Hello, Francis
PS: I personally do not care too much who is not participating, is a free choice to be respected. And since this is a small world, you know who you mean, do better names then in my opinion. But that part of the controversy found a truly end in itself, much better when you build!

Dear Francis (Quistelli), but where have I been so far? How come we never met. Long live there 'for someone to speak the same language! You're right about everything, even the PS. But I am a bigot danntamente Catholic and I was always taught that "says the sin but not the sinner." Saying the sinner would do controversy. I say the drama, the example story, just to understand the problem. I do not care the least campbiare people's heads, not even trying, especially for some people. The abuses are so many and such violent, unjust treatment shameful, bad, I had to endure insulting, that I have no hope that someone will realize how bad the world is doing fund raising. But I need, with examples, to understand, those who can not, understand. Here are two conceptions of life, not just labor.
It better be a bad person with a great character, or a good person with a bad temper?

You see, dear James, the point here is not 'to become all "pacifists" and throw away the gun when the other has it, and you tip him.
The point is that it takes "to rebuild the economy of the other", otherwise it is very difficult that the other can interact with you.
When there 'the famous phrase "turn the other cheek" which some interpret as "facts strike twice" I say you make a mistake.
Give "the other cheek" means "give way to another to rebuild its economy with you" so he can return to relationship with you and also you earn.
That's why forgiveness is "economic", because I would lose the other to rebuild a positive economics with me and therefore I, who live by the fact that there are others (not live alone!) Will gain . Regal is, but in an intelligent way, "not pearls before swine."
Why ask the pearls do not know what to do and therefore are not "economic for them and if they are not for them, they are not even for me. And 'silly giving pearls before swine, because nobody makes money, plus I lose myself.
So "not pearls before swine," but only "turn the other cheek" to the end of his reconstruction (that is also convenient to me). Let me explain?

If Radiohead had "given pearls before swine" or have "the other cheek", will tell the story.
